What is the Excel V+ Laser?
The excel® V+ is a favourite with some of the best laser clinics in the world. The excel® V+ is comprised of two lasers, a KTP laser and the Nd:YAG laser, this is why the device can treat a broad range of skin concerns without any compromise in efficacy.
It features sapphire contact cooling for enhanced patient comfort and a special pen-like handpiece that allows for precision tracing of small vascular and pigmented lesions in difficult-to-treat areas of the face and body.
The excel® V+ laser also has a variable spot size, which can be precisely focused from 2 mm so that tiny vessels can be traced, up to 16 mm (the largest spot size in its class) for comfortable, efficient treatment of larger areas.

Laser Genesis
In addition to Excel V+, we now also provide Cutera’s signature Laser Genesis™ procedure which has been designed to treat sensitive, rosacea prone skin. This delivers a non-ablative, no-downtime treatment to address skin revitalization concerns, textural impurities, and scarring.
Laser Genesis is a fantastic treatment to make the skin firmer, tighter and create a more even complexion but it can also be used to treat pigmentation, (including melasma) and reduce the size of pores.
By stimulating collagen regrowth, Laser Genesis effectively reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, tightens pores, reduces oil production, improves overall tone and texture on the skin, gets rid of sun damage and helps to diminish any redness on the skin.
Laser Genesis works by gently heating the dermis, which is located below the skin’s surface. Patients often find the treatment very soothing, as there is zero discomfort involved. We can now combine this with a HydraFacial (HydraGenesis) to create the ultimate treatment for glowing skin.
The Process
A soothing ultrasound jelly is applied to the skin which provides a cooling contact for a special sapphire tip. This helps to ensure that the skin is kept cool and protected during the treatment. It also enables a soothing treatment with minimal discomfort. The laser feels like a warm flicking sensation with soothing cooling before and after the laser. Typically no anaesthetic cream is required.
Both the KTP and long pulse Nd:YAG lasers can be used to trace the thread veins, which can be seen to immediately diminish after each laser shot. The laser light heats up the blood vessels, which then collapse, and then seal shut. They are then broken down by the body’s own natural healing mechanism. When treating areas of pigmentation, these areas will darken before flaking off or being reabsorbed by the body.
Treatments can be combined to treat smaller specific problems, such as thread veins and brown spots, along with larger areas of dyschromia, sun damage and redness on the same day.

How does Excel V+ work?

Is the treatment painful?
Excel V+ treatments can feel similar to a quick rubber band snap against skin. Depending on the procedure, a cooled treatment tip will be in contact with the skin to protect and provide additional comfort to the area.
Are there any side-effects and what is the downtime?
Typically, you can wear make-up and return to normal activities immediately. Redness and/or swelling can be expected following treatment. For full face treatments, swelling will peak 24 to 48 hours post treatment and usually resolves within a few days Your provider may recommend a topical steroid to reduce swelling as needed. Treated brown spots will darken following the treatment and slough off within 3 to 5 days.
