Dehydrated Skin
- Cut back on products- Remove products that might irritate your skin. Active toners, physical exfoliants and acids that are too strong can harm dehydrated skin.
- Use barrier repair ingredients- Look for products that will hydrate your skin and restore the skin’s barrier. Ingredients such as urea, ceramides, lactic acid, or glycerol will benefit dehydrated skin.
- Adjust your skin care for the seasons- Just like your wardrobe you need to adjust your skin care for each season. During colder climates you should remove any products that might damage your skin barrier, this is particularly important if you have rosacea or sensitive skin. If your skin is dehydrated you may also need to reduce the strength of your active products.
- Check your air conditioning and heating- Central heating can have a drying effect on your skin as they remove moisture from the air. A humidifier adds moisture to the air to help to reduce dry, itchy skin.
- Give your skin time to see results rather than switching from product to product. Your skin routine should be built upon rather than changed dramatically.
When over the counter products are not having the desired results it is important to seek medical advice as there may be an underlying condition such as eczema, psoriasis or rosacea that require prescription medication.
