Azelaic Acid

Azelaic acid’s anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties treat the symptoms of both rosacea and acne.

Benefits of Azelaic acid:

• Azelaic acid reduces the growth of bacteria in the follicle; reducing redness, swelling and inflammation.
• Azelaic acid inhibits the production of keratin skin cells and kills the skin bacteria that can lead to blocked pores and glands. This combined effect prevents the development of white and blackheads.
• Azelaic acid inhibits melanin production, reducing and lightening pigmentation and brown spots.
• Over time the use of azelaic acid will smoothen skin and reduce redness, flushing and the appearance of obvious blood vessels.
  
  Many over the counter products contain a low percentage of azelaic acid which may be beneficial to some clients. If you are not seeing improvement with over the counter products we often prescribe Skinoren™️ Cream. This is a topical azelaic acid cream with a concentration of 20%. Skinoren works in two ways; reducing the growth of pore-blocking keratin cells and killing the bacteria on the skin.
  
  Azelaic acid cream should be applied to the affected area once a day and as the skin tolerates the cream this can be increased to twice-daily. Azelaic acid is safe during pregnancy but always consult your doctor.
